Naïve imitation and partial cooperation in a local public goods model

چکیده
In a local interaction model agents play bilateral prisoners’ dilemmas with their immediate neighbors and have three possible strategies: altruistic, egoistic, partial cooperation. After each period the adopt strategy highest average payoff in observed neighborhood. There does not exist an absorbing state which partially cooperative coexists any of other strategies. The limits diffusion altruistic behavior population. Although clustering altruists is beneficial for sustaining altruism, relatively big groups at onset enable spread strategy.

Cooperation, imitation and partial rematching
We study a setting where imitative players are matched into pairs to play a Prisoners’ Dilemma game. A well known result in such setting is that under random matching cooperation vanishes for any interior initial condition. The novelty of this paper is that we consider partial rematching: players that belong to a pair where both parties cooperate repeat partner next period whilst all other play...
متن کاملCooperation and Punishment in Public Goods Experiments
Casual evidence as well as daily experience suggest that many people have a strong aversion against being the "sucker" in social dilemma situations. As a consequence, those who cooperate may be willing to punish free-riding, even if this is costly for them and even if they cannot expect future benefits from their punishment activities. A main purpose of this paper is to show experimentally that...
متن کاملEmergence of cooperation in public goods games.
Evolution of cooperation has been a major issue in evolutionary biology. Cooperation is observed not only in dyadic interactions, but also in social interactions involving more than two individuals. It has been argued that direct reciprocity cannot explain the emergence of cooperation in large groups because the basin of attraction for the 'cooperative' equilibrium state shrinks rapidly as the ...
متن کاملEcological public goods games: cooperation and bifurcation.
The Public Goods Game is one of the most popular models for studying the origin and maintenance of cooperation. In its simplest form, this evolutionary game has two regimes: defection goes to fixation if the multiplication factor r is smaller than the interaction group size N, whereas cooperation goes to fixation if the multiplication factor r is larger than the interaction group size N. Hauert...
متن کاملInterlocal Cooperation in the Supply of Local Public Goods: A Transaction Cost and Social Exchange Explanation
Although a multiplicity of local governments is often regarded as promoting efficiency in the supply of public services, political fragmentation can generate economies of scale and externality problems. Several exogenous solutions, including the creation of overlapping districts governments, consolidation of existing units and establishment of a metropolitan government, or direct state or feder...
